Part of Something Bigger

Growing Through Teamwork, Commitment and Perseverance

A Westbrook football player in helmet and gloves points both hands toward the camera under the lights.

Some things might seem ordinary, like football practices, color guard rehearsals, or cross-country runs. But being part of a team allows our children to work toward something bigger than themselves — they are learning perseverance, commitment, and what they’re capable of.

At Westbrook and the Ranch, our children have opportunities to try something new, discover what they enjoy, and keep going when something is hard. Our houseparents are committed to keeping our children involved and encouraging them to show up again and again. As they prepare to play under the Friday night lights, perform alongside the band, or run a course to their full potential, they are seeing what it means to commit and persevere.

They are experiencing the reward that comes from working hard alongside their teammates toward a common goal. They are learning to encourage one another, depend on each other, and be part of something bigger than themselves. These experiences matter because they help our children discover they are capable.
